Who qualifies

The eligibility rules, in full

ECO4 solar funding depends on three things lining up. Here they are - and the benefits that count - with nothing hidden in the small print.

01

Electric heating

Your home must be heated by electricity - a heat pump or electric storage heaters. Homes with a mains gas boiler do not qualify for solar under ECO4. This is the single most common reason households don't qualify.

02

EPC band D to G

Your Energy Performance Certificate must be rated D, E, F or G. Suppliers usually prioritise the lowest-rated homes. Don't know your rating? We can help you find it.

03

A qualifying benefit

Someone in the household receives one of the 16 means-tested benefits below - or you qualify through your council's LA Flex scheme for low-income or vulnerable households.

Sixteen qualifying benefits

If you receive any of these, you meet the benefits test

  • 01 Universal Credit
  • 02 Income Support
  • 03 Income-related Employment & Support Allowance (ESA)
  • 04 Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA)
  • 05 Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit)
  • 06 Working Tax Credit
  • 07 Child Tax Credit
  • 08 Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
  • 09 Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • 10 Attendance Allowance
  • 11 Carer's Allowance
  • 12 Severe Disablement Allowance
  • 13 Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
  • 14 War Pensioner's Mobility Supplement
  • 15 Constant Attendance Allowance
  • 16 Armed Forces Independence Payment

Receiving a benefit is the start, not the whole story - the electric-heating and EPC conditions still apply, and your energy supplier makes the final decision.
